Lasik Surgery: What to expect before, and post the surgery
Being able to see the world without even the thinnest of barriers is possibly the most wonderful thing! Isn’t it??!!
Our eyes are the gateway to our mind and soul. Thus, we all love to have them free and liberated. However, certain vision conditions like Farsightedness (Myopia), Nearsightedness (Hyperopia), or Astigmatism limit us in many chores in our day-to-day life.
To cope up with the above problems, you indeed have to wear glasses or probably use lenses. And we all know maintaining them is a great deal, and you always need to be careful.
Lasik eye surgery is a superb way to get you rid of all the eye-related hassles. For the unaware, Lasik surgery is an absolutely painless process.

What should you look forward to before the surgery?
- You meet your coordinator or surgeon.
- To map your cornea and dilate your pupils, the coordinator may conduct a full-eye examination. This is done to measure the refraction, cornea thickness, or eye pressure.
- If everything comes out to be fine, you can then go ahead and book an appointment.
- You will be advised not to wear your contact lenses for at least 3 days before your evaluation (If you wear any).
- Don’t forget to get your eyeglasses along so that the surgeon can check the prescription.
On the day of Lasik surgery
- Try having a light meal
- Remember to take all your medications
- Avoid any sort of heavy eye make-up or hair accessories
- If you aren’t feeling well on the day of surgery, inform your surgeon for sure.
During Lasik Surgery
- Your surgeon puts some drops to numb your eyes.
- With the help of an instrument called microkeratome laser, he will make a thin flap in the cornea of your eyes.
- Peeling it back, your surgeon will use another laser to restructure the tissue beneath.
- The entire process may take up to 20 minutes. It is a good idea to have somebody driving you home post the process.
After the surgery
- You might not realize, but your eyes will be dry for a couple of days. Strictly use the eye drops that your doctor prescribes and nothing else.
- You may experience some burning sensation or blurry vision applying it, but do not worry. It will be temporary.
Other precautions
- Avoid swimming or hot tub baths for 2 weeks.
- You may get a plastic shield on your eyes while sleeping to protect your eyes.
Mostly, recovery completes within just a few days. Call your doctor if you confront any problem, and do not miss your follow-up visits.
